"what will I do?"
Simple.
Ask her what she wants.
Buy it.
Then buy your SA Mil-spec.
Simple.

...WAS anti-gun informed me.... So what happened between the words "anti-gun" and "informed"...!?
You're leaving the most important part of your great news out of the big story!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

well I have been coming home from the shooting range and telling her how much fun it is, so she wants to try it, but she has to have her own gun. she thinks mine is ugly(even my own wife doesn't like my hi-point!)
I am going to get her somthing in a 357 so she can start in .38 then move up when she is ready.

Um, this is only a suggestion but you might let her shoot a .22 pistol or revolver until she reaches a comfort level with the basics. Even mid-range target wadcutters in .38 Special can be overwhelming to a beginner. Once she has become confident with the .22 she will beg to move up to something more powerful.
Best.

Well, I think Hi-Points are ugly too!
There is no gun more fun than a Buckmark or MkII. Not only are they a pleasure to shoot, they teach basic skills very well so confidence in her own skills will be steadily built. You'll never lose money on one, and they're cheap to shoot.
Maybe she's a natural and will go through all the ones on the rental list very fast so she'll be able to pick the exact gun she wants to own as an informed choice.
Good luck!

Well durn, one of them sacrifice dealies your gonna have to cave in on :D
I'd suggest very strongly , Let her choose the gun that fits her. I'd suggest she rent, or try before she buys. Even adding letting her get lessons from someone else.
You just be supportive, drive and pay for lunch and all.
I'd give the same the advice even if she was not your wife, not a female, not a family member.
Don't know her experience , I start new shooters with 22lr revo, then 22lr semis. Then we moved to model 10 in 38-- 3913, and Glocks in 9mm ...continues with Sigs, Beretta...and calibers to 45ACP
But have fun and be safe regardless.
