I was thinking of buying a thumbhole stock for my mossberg 500. Are there any practical benefits? I use mine for deer (mostly buckshot), waterfowl, and turkey hunting.

The main drawback to one is the ability to easily manipulate the safety. Otherwise, probably not. I do not prefer them personally, but my shotgun uses are different
