Well, I only made around 100 or so, plus five ingots but it was very fun and rewarding!! Great way to spend an hour.

These were made with a .356 Lee 9mm mold

Nice. You might want to find a old aluminum cooking pan to set your casting set up on.
It holds all you splatters and keeps clean up easy. I also use a old alloy pan/bowl to catch the cut off lead. Then just drop it back in to the pot as I cast.

Good advice earplug... I did make a few modifications to make things better. It was my first go at it, but it was very fun. I had a good groove going :)

Casting is a lot of fun! I've spent many joyful hours turning scrap lead into pretty bullets and some ugly ones too, best part is there is no need to keep a ugly bullet, just re-cast and make it pretty.

May want to try the macro setting on the camera, or at least find out what the minimum focus distance is(how close you can get) and stay at least that far from the subject(bullets). Photography, that's my other hobby(job).

I checked... my phone only has one setting :)

Last year my 13 year old went to Baltimore for a 7th grade trip and was mugged. My camera now belongs to a "young man" in MD....

What phone do you have?

I was a City Carrier for the USPS for 35 yrs. As I walked my route, I picked up wheelweights all most every day. The truck route ran through my side of town. Those big truck weights would make several 44 mag bullets each. Plus I kept and eye out for the plumbing guys, always ask for any lead pipe they found.

use a good bench. if possible.
Then you need
2 pieces of plywood about 12X12
1 Soda can or tomato sauce can
1 Wet Towel wringed out and folded

pu the sauce can under the pot. So if it starts to leak it will fall in the can. Or cut a soda can in half and you can use that. The piece of plywood put one on each side. The wet towel where your going to open the mold.

So now you start casting you have to put the mold down. Well you place it on the plywood all tools go on the plywood. Ok after a while of casting you think the mold is too hot. Run it across the plywood if it leaves a burnt mark. Yep its too hot let it sit. The towel after whacking the sprue you can drop the bullets on the wet towel.

Scrat, that was all great advice especially this part... I think for sure my mold was getting too hot...

I will be working on my setup again tomorrow... I just had to give it a shot today as I have been over thinking it :)
