Winchester 97 riot sling mount question

Some of the Winchester 97 riot guns I've seen didn't have the heatshield like a trench gun but still had a sling mounted just didn't get to look up close....I've only seen them in a book or on a movie/television. How was this done? I have 97 that I would like to mount a correct sling too.

The front swivel on those guns was attached to the front barrel band/magazine cap.
