116691Hello:
New to this site, any help I can get would be great. I'm from Canada and we don't seem to have alot of info on this gun.
I just purchased a Smith and Wesson Model 48 22 mag Serial # K3731.05
any info, history ,age ,value, tips for target shooting would be great.
Thanks in advance.

Welcome aboard. I stumbled into this site looking for information on a 48-4 late last year. There is good info to be had but it is addictive.
These are on the 'medium' or 'K' frame.
There is a 'sticky' (A thread that stays at the top of the forum) in the revolver section 'DOB thread for S&W revolvers' where the really knowledgeable people can tell you the age etc. You might want to post there for more response. There is also a 'common S&W identifing features' 'sticky' that I find helpful. My meager info is gleaned from there.
48 from 1959 to 1986 KTM 22 WMRF K-22 Masterpiece MRF - harmonic
If I read this correctly it may be a first year gun. Always a good find. K350,548 – K386,804...1959 - SaxonPig He also notes that the dates are a guideline & sometimes shipped out of order.
Pics of the other side might get some interest and help to date it.
They sometimes come with a second cylinder (Or have one fitted) in .22LR. Mine only came with .22LR but the person I got it from found the .22WMR later and sent it over along with 500 cartridges that were stored with it. Now that's thoughtful!
Another good source (with some of the same members) that I enjoy is S&W forum. (http://smith-wessonforum.com/forum.php)
