Hi,

So I'm browsing magazines and have seen these things like rcbs trim mate, and primer pocket cleaning tools.

Do I need this stuff for 45 long colt? If not, when would someone use stuff like that?

I do keep an awl on my bench just to clean any case cleaning media in the primer pockets after cleaning.

Thanks,

LW

I never clean .45 Colt primer pockets. I never clean any pistol caliber primer pockets, but some folks do. There are many free ways to do it.

I do trim my revolver cases.

I have a Wilson, an RBCS, and a Forster trimmer. The Wilson is the best, but slow. I only use it for 6PPC cases. The Forster is the next best, and then the RCBS. The RCBS will flex some if you are not careful, but works great.

I use an old bent Lee 223 decapping punch to remove media from my flash holes and when inspecting them if I see any crud I use it to remove anything then. That's all I do for my primer pockets.

L. Waders--Cheap PP cleaning tool--Go to hardware store+buy a foot or so of 1/8" plastic coated steel cable. Cut off 1" to 1 1/2" sections-cut (with razor blade/sharp knife) approx. 1/8" of the plastic coating off of one end. Chuck the short section into a cordless drill, and you have a "home made" power primer pocket cleaner. PS. you'll get 10 to 12 of these "tools" for the price of one foot of cable==$2-3.00.. And--yes you will feel better with the pp crunches removed--won't make any difference in your loads-but-you will feel better about it...:uhoh::what::)

I've never trimmed my cases nor cleaned the primer pockets. Never found a need. They always go "boom".

no need to trim handgun brass regularly, but I do always clean my pockets

Primer pockets... not usually for sidearm brass but I cannot say I never do.

I'm with AC Walkalong when it comes to trimming revolver type brass, though. I ALWAYS give them a trim to start off with.
