I can't figure it out. Why do people stick something through the trigger guard whenever they take a picture of their gun? Like a pencil, stick, loaded round, etc.? Thanks.

It lifts the gun to a better angle to take a photo.

Because about half the time a gun is laying flat on the floor for a picture, the photographer gets his hairy toes in the picture.

+1 on previous post

The angle reduces flash glare to give a better pic.

I call 'em tactical toes. Some wear ghillie suits to try and blend in with the carpet.

+1 on the better angle.

I really don't know why, but it gives a 3D dimensions I guess.

It's the easiest way to tilt the gun up to give a more advantageous angle.

Its not a look that I care for, though as I think it detracts from the image.

Justin, what about if a round of ammo is used instead? I agree, the pencil does take away, but it seems the best way to produce the angle. But, I am without a doubt the worlds worst photographer. Strike that, picture taker. I should not even use the P word when describing my ability to take pictures.

Hairy toes? Why, they are part of my Bigfoot costume... It helps that I have size 13 feet.

I agree, I prefer to see the gun propped with something braced on the back side of the slide where nobody can see it.

I've used .50 BMG cartridges for this purpose a number of times.

I tried that too, something just didn't look right in the picture of my LCP though.:neener:
