I also have a Loaded Light Weight Champion Operator that I use as one my carry guns.
Im not exactly sure what you are refering to as far as the edges, I will say that the Springfield is a little "blockier" than the Kimber Eclipse I have. However, my operator is still comfortable to carry and shoot.

Hm... blocky? I didn't expect that. I can't really see where or how it's blocky.
About the sharp edges -- it looks to me like it's a little sharp where the polished parts meet the matte parts. For example, just under the front serrations or where the sides of the grip meet the frontstrap.
I also always like to get a feel for the width of a 1911 slide, the thinner the better.
The slide serrations are the only area on mine with any significantly sharp edges. To a casual touch they weren't so bad, but they were rather annoying when used to cycle the slide. I lightly stoned those edges & corners and it made a noticeable improvement.
The rest of the gun is fine, however. The edges you mention may appear sharp, but it's simply due to the contrasting textures of the finish. The gun is very comfortable to hold and shoot.
Those are the best photos I have handy. If there's anything in particular you'd like a picture of, I'd be happy to photograph it for you.

This is one of my favorite pistols. It's very accurate and has yet to fail me even once. I wouldn't consider any of the edges on mine to be sharp. The only area that may qualify, as spin180 mentioned, are the cocking serrations.

Thanks, I really appreciate that. I won't bother you for any more pictures, but how is the width compared to your Eclipse? I have no way of handling a SA Loaded, but I'm around Kimbers all the time.
This is my first gun, and it will be my only gun for a long time -- so I'm trying to be sure.

I can try and get some pics of the kimber up later. the Kimber I have feels thinner, and the edges are more rounded, especially along the frontstrap.
If you want my opinion I have been impressed with my both of my Springfield Loaded models enough to order on of thier custom shop guns. I could get a new Baer or used Wilson for the price and not have to wait 8 months, but I have been so impressed by thier guns and customer service that I just had to have one even with the wait.
If I had only one hun for a long time, a Springfield Loaded would not be a bad choice at all. I have/had 1911 models by the following manufacturer: Colt, Taurus, Springfield, Kimber, STI, RIA, & S&W. I think for the price, Springfield is hard to beat.
Echo, like the other posters I've got a Loaded SS Champion and love it. I bought mine used (only gun I've bought used) a month or so ago and it's easy to carry, feels great, and shoots really well. I love mine! Get it; you won't be sorry.

Again, thanks everyone. It's important to me that I know I definitely want this pistol, because not only do I not have a carry gun (or any guns for that matter), it will be my only one for a while since I'm joining the military.
BTW, I found an old THR range report about this gun, and all the pictures are broken. :banghead:
Looks like I'll probably get it. I hope the HK P30 I was eyeing doesn't get jealous. Probably won't though, considering I suck and it hates me anyway.
I'm glad the only work I'll need to get done is fitting a one sided thumb safety plus a pair of thinner black grips. (Eventual bobtail notwithstanding.)
One more thing... Quack, I noticed yours has the flat trigger. What exactly is the advantage to that? Just personal preference?

Good attitude, lol. Keep in mind that if by some curse you do go wrong with a springer, their warranty is ridiculous (in a good way).

It's not a stainless champion, but here is my bobtailed Springfield LW Champion. I have had it for several years and really like it. I put VZ Slim Gator Backs in Green Black Linen on it. You will not be disapointed with the Champion.
