Here is my prototype of the Smatchet. Many of you will know about the historical significance of this style of blade. The Smatchet will be a regular offering of mine and will fit in nicely with my big blades.

The Specs:

5160 High carbon
15 1/2" overall
10 " double hollow ground, fullered and Black Gun Kote blade
Black Canvas Micarta grip
1 lb. 3oz.
Balance point is 1" from the top of the grip
Handmade leather sheath

Thanks for looking,

JG

I don't know the historical significance, but that's a pretty fantastic looking piece if you ask me. Great work!

Mr. Gage,

Your version doesn't seem as wide/leaf-shaped as some I've seen. I like your blade shape better. :)

Looks very well executed- manages to look very high-tech yet historical, at once. Thanks for sharing it with us.

Very nice, the Colonel would be Proud of such a re-creation of his fine blade.

John,

Nice work!

Very nice, the Colonel would be Proud of such a re-creation of his fine blade.
Col. Applegate was many things, but he never seemed to like any changes to any blades he had a hand in. That's not a good or bad thing, just certainty that he'd done the best that could be done.

No it's a Spartan XIPHOS. Way too short for a GH or a Xiphos of other hoplites.

a spear-mount would be nice as an add-on.

This way youŽd have a nice Assegai.
