With file in hand.....Oh God!

The side rail mount of my Romak 3 is (WAS!) ever so slightly larger at the entry point than at the front where the mount clamps into place. That meant that when fully engaged and clamped there was a very slight wobble to the scope. A slight turn of the ajustment screw and the scope would slide on but wobble, go the other direction (tighten) and the clamp just would not fit/slide over the entry point of the rail. Frustration and disbelief that such an micro ajustment of the clamp screw kept me from mounting my scope rock solid! With trusty file in hand (and a silent prayer) I slowly removed less than a hair of metal from lower rail just at the entry point. My efforts have been rewarded...I now have a scope that still slides on and off but is rock solid when the clamp is engaged. Has anyone else had to do this "minor" fitting?

Nope. Hate to make you frustrated, but my rail worked the first time. Had to adjust the clamp, of course, but it held evenly.

I had an ARMS #45C that wasn't machined right underneath the rail where the forend of the reciever flat top is. It was just a hair off, but it was enough to prevent the mount from sliding all the way to the rear. 3 seconds with a file and it was fixed. The alternative was shipping it back to ARMS and waiting 6 months for another one to be available.

The scope mount on my m1a called for the clip guide to be replaced with one that had a screw hole tapped into it. The new guide was nearly a millimeter too thick. Nothing a good file couldn't handle.
