Figure on it being about 13 inches low at 300 yards and down about 28 inches at 400 yards.

Wow 13 inches I didn't think a 270 would drop that much , but anyway I was shooting a very large target so it still doesnt make sense. Thanks for the help it may just be my shooting.

No, that sounds as if the rifle and you are fine. One inch high at 100 yards means about a 150-yard zero, and a 10.8-inch drop at 300 for 130 grain bullets and 13.6 for 150 grain bullets. That's where I sight mine, since I so seldom shoot at anything 300 yards away.

If you want less drop, you'll need to raise your 100-yard point of impact, perhaps to Remington's suggested "long range zero," 1.5 to 2 inches high at 100 yards. That'll yield a 200-yard zero, and seven to nine inch drops at 300 yards.

You can edge it up a little more, but not much. Just guessing, but 3.5 inches high at 100 yards might yield a 275 yard zero - flatter at long range, but look at how far it is above your sight line in where most shots actually take place... five inches, maybe?

You've discovered the fallacy behind the .270's "flat shooting" reputation; it really isn't significantly different than the 30-06. I like it because it has less recoil and is a bit more accurate than most '06 rifles.
