Thinking about a new pistol

I'm pretty much set on it being in 9mm. I'm going to be using it for mainly plinking and just having some fun shooting on the weekend nothing else. I would like to keep it under 600. I have been looking for a 9mm 1911 but nothing falls in my price range. My next choice is a ruger sr9. I'm trying to stay away from a glock just because everyone and their mom has one.

Think CZ 75B, used SIGs (226, 229), Beretta 92, Springfield XDm etc. There are plenty to choose from.

Ruger makes good guns. I doubt you'd be disappointed in the SR9. Depending on if you're really trying to keep it as far under that $600 as possible though, with that budget I'd look at a S&W M&P first.

9mm 1911, you can get very similar in a fantastic gun by getting the CZ 75 in 9mm. Its very 1911 like and they are great shooters

Its rare to see one ever get bashed here on this forum, they are that solid

The Beretta Px4 Storm is a really nice shooting pistol.

The Beretta Px4 Storm is a really nice shooting pistol.

I'll second this motion. Mine has been extremely reliable since day one, and a pleasure to shoot.

And I dont think you will have to worry about everyone and their mom having one either. :D

FNP-9. real nice trigger and solid construction for 500. cant beat it, though FN is releasing the FNX-9 soon.... would also suggest a used usp-9, but thats pushing your 600 limit.

STI Spartan around $650, not many pistols in this price range have a trigger worth mention. CZ good service pistol with a below average trigger out of the box. SIG great SA trigger but a stiff DA pull, same with Beretta. Glock G34 has a 4.5 lb pull, but a long pull and reset. If I had my choice of any 9mm service pistol (and I do) SIG 226 DA/SA or Glock G34 for IPSC Production class. Still a good 1911 is hard to beat at the range, combination of trigger, and a 5 inch barrel. Only thing wrong with a 1911 is capacity, double stack 1911s exist but are a handful and a half.

Beretta 92FS - a classic and still used by the military for good reason!

If it is just intended as a plinker "kind of a just staying in practice shooting gun" why not consider saving as much as you can and going with a 22 rimfire ? Heck for that matter if you live in a house with a basement try a top of the line pellet pistol and a good pellet trap and you can shoot any and everyday you want to with little or no expense beyond that of the expense of the gun .

Fact of the matter is shooting is shooting and something like a Beman or a Gamo will indeed keep you in practice from everything from defensive shooting to hunting big game .

Skip the Berettas because of the slide mounted safety. It's too easy to accidentally engage the safety during an emergency reload. Getting "Click!" when you NEED "BANG!" is...disconcerting.

+1 on the CZ 75B. I have it, and I absolutely love it. EAA witnesses are good too, and they sure are pretty.

I really reccomend the CZ75B stainless. BEAUTIFUL gun.
