So it's a pretty short and sweet question. I'm thinking about getting rid of my Beretta 96 to buy a Sig P226. What do you think? Is this a good decision? Has anyone ever done a comparison of the two pistols and if so then post a link. Thanks!

IF your bored with the gun, don't like it anymore, just want a change, sure, why not..? A Sig P226 is another great gun.

A 96 Centurion ..? Should post it for sale over in the Beretta forum.

Assuming you're talking about the P226 in the same .40 S&W caliber, there is not any measurable difference between the two in regards to accuracy, durability, or reliability. Try the Sig and see how you like shooting it compared to the Beretta. Personal preference is really going to be the only deciding factor between the two, and it's hard to go wrong with either.

Is money so tough that you can't save for a few months and buy the Sig P226 later and have BOTH guns. I've sold a lot of guns in the past; with the thought of buying a different gun. With the exception of 1 gun (Llama 45acp), I have regretted selling every one of those guns. Even if they are the same caliber, there's always a reason to have more guns. I've even gotten to the point where I've literally given away for free certain guns to friends or family so they could have something for defense and to get involved with shooting as a past time. I feel good about guns I've given away. I feel terrible about guns I've sold. But if you can't afford to wait and save and have both, then in my opinion the P226 is a better weapon hands down. But if you can afford to wait, save, and buy and have both, that is the better choice.

IMHO the 96 is a classic you will later regret getting rid of... I sold mine years ago to my cousin who has ever since refused to sell it back to me :banghead: I made up for it this year when I snagged a sweet INOX 96 with match trigger and bar-sto barrel for 550 FTF- even had the box and papers! only imperfection was a small ding on the frame

But I still miss my ol black one :(

I have both pistols. they are entirely different. If you shoot the 96 accurately you will have some adjusting to do with the Sig. the trigger on the Sig is really different. It has a longer detent to the second stage. The Beretta is a fine gun, I love the long sight ratio. However the gun in my bedside table is the Sig. they issue them to the Navy Seals ( My Nephew is a Seal and that is what they issued him) I know the Sig, ugly as it is will funftion time in time out. Personally if I had to give up the Beretta to get the Sig I wouldn't. I would stay with what you have and you know unless you just don't like it. Save your money and have both. Oh, I'm assuming you are talking .40 cal.

3 things I can definitely tell you about your Centurion 40 vs

1. Sig P229/40

2. Px4 40cal

3. Sig P226/40

Owning the first 2 and knowing that they are they best, balanced, fall back on target quick accuracy, soft shooting, 40's out there (both very forgiving) as the smaller size, of both, for my ccw needs vs the longer/taller 226's.

3. I shot one after I let a LEO shoot my Beretta Px4 40 (for the first time) he loved it so he, after putting 10 rounds into a hole the size/torn of a quarter, then asked If I wanted to shoot his *DAO Sig P226.. I said sure, thinking it was a 45, for some reason, and when I shot it I loved the soft recoil, balance, fall back on target like my Sig P220/45 I had also let him shoot that day, as well, only to be told *it was a 40cal.. :o Yep, as I said very nice 45.

P226/40's are very forgiving, soft recoil, so balanced with falling back on target so naturally, and "very accurate" in both type shooting, slow and fast.

OMMV,

I've known many people who've sold or traded their Berettas, and not a single one of them hasn't been kicking themselves in the butt later on down the road. I've got a 92 I'll never get rid of.

i've carried the Beretta 96 and both the 229 and 226 chambered in .40...as well as a Glock 22 for off-duty

i always came back to the Beretta because it was just a smoother operating action and i found i was able to shoot it more accurately and faster.

i prefer the 226 in 9mm as i've found it an outstanding platform in that calibre
