I wear my sunglasses at night

while reading THR. Daytime too because the current scheme is kind of like staring at a lightbulb. Is there a way to change the style to a darker scheme? I thought there used to be a darker style selectable on the bottom left of the page, but it doesn't appear to be there now.

Works for me. Why not turn down the brightness on your screen?

I do have the brightness down. What worked for you? I can only get it to change from green to green and blue with the same bright white looking scheme.

Did you try the "vBulletin 3" selection at the bottom? It's mostly blue, but not quite as bright as the THR selection.
Seriously, if staring at a monitor is like staring at a lightbulb, then your screen is overly bright or you have an eye problem. You might want to discuss it with an opthalmologist.

When I said "works for me" I meant that the current scheme works for me.

Mal, I tried the other scheme, it is a tiny bit better, but it's still all white with a little blue where the green was. The brightness on my monitor is normal, and I don't have any eye problems. This is the only forum I know of that is all white background. I wish there was a gray type of scheme. Anything not so bright and white. I did turn my monitor brightness all the way down to 0, it was at 50% before.

Just for you - I've created a darker background "skin". Select the "shaded background" style to use it. Not all elements are darkened, but enough to really dim that lightbulb. :)

That's really thoughtful of you... I too have noticed problems after hours of THR'ing, and this new background helps out my 61 year old "trifoculed" orbs.
Thanks Mal H. :)

Ok, since several of you are using it, I'll ask if it should be a tad brighter or darker or is it just right?

I don't know about the other people here, but the shaded background is a tad dim on my MacBook. It's interesting that the "Quick Reply" box is brighter than the rest of the screen.

I like it. I have trouble looking at something bright also & this helped.

I like this new scheme too. I suppose it could be a touch brighter but this will work too. I like it greatly over the white. Should there be some kind of memo to the rest of THR that there is a new scheme?

'bout right for me. :scrutiny:
It would probably be a good idea to inform the others who might not be aware of this option (I was among those myself... ) if possible.

I just tried the new background, and really like it! I didn't think the original BG was irritating, but I think I'll stick with this new one. I'll be 78 later this month, incidentally.

Very nice! Easy on the eyes...
Didn't realize how bothersome the default background was, until trying this new shaded one.
Never going back!

Too dark to suit me, but the normal is not too bad. It is a bit brighter than some sites. A slightly shaded would be worth a try IMHO. The light blue of TFL is the best.

I turned on the shaded one, and thought, "nah, too dark"
Then, when I was done with the thread, I turned the other setting on, and WHAMMO, hit in the face with 100,000 lumens.
:) great new theme

Holy moly! What a difference the new color scheme makes! Thank you, my viewing at THR has become even more enjoyable.

I thought this was a bit of a whiny complaint to begin with, but I am glad that I gave the new background a shot. It makes a substantial difference. The QR box is a little light, but that helps to differentiate it from the rest of the thread, so I don't think it is too bad.
Great job, Mal! :)
