In all this N frame mania, does anyone have any pics of "modified" 1917's? Shortened Barrels, Rounded frames, different finishes?

This one was on one of the auctions about 2 months ago.
I did a double take at first, it looks almost exactly like the one I used to own and carry on & off duty.

Real nice Bluebear. I like that sort o thing. I have a 1917 made in late 20's with a modified (filed into patridge blade and zero'd)front sight, but couldn't bring myself to cut barrel although 3" would be nice!:)

Can anybody recommend a replacement grip for this gun? I would like to preserve the origional grips and find them too small anyway.

My 1917 had a little longer barrel.
Back in 1978 when the local police changed from a "carry any revolver you want" policy to a "carry any revolver you want as long as it's .38 or .357" policy there were quite a few gems available.
I bought mine from a buddy for as I recall $150. The barrel had been cut back to 3¾" and the front sight reattached. The point of impact was even correct for hardball. It had diamond grips and still had the lanyard.
It was a sweet shooter except the DA pull was a little gritty. I put in a new S&W wide target trigger and that did it. It then had a trigger pull that was as good as any I have seen.
I wish I had kept it. :(

Jar,
Those loops look to be close enough together to let you use 1/3 moon clips.
Nice rig BTW.

A friend once showed me and let me shoot a 1917 that had been converted to .357mag via a new barrel and cylinder. There was once a conversion "kit" sold that would do that. He said he would never shoot anything but .38 spec. Quantrill
