On my last day volunteering at the local weapons museum, the guys brought by an MP44 for me to play with.. yowsa! Field stripped the thing.. kinda like the cast off child of an AK and HK, with a touch of Siminov (and even Stoner!) thrown in. It is simply amazing how much modern rifles borrow from that thing.
There's the M16 mag release and dust cover. There's the AK gas piston and SKS bolt block. Add in a fixed left-hand bolt handle.. and incredible ergonomics! I was in awe. Shouldered darn nice to...
I want one. :)
Then I heard the rest of the story on the Stoner 63 here. Talk about a gun with a history! Apparently not only was it Stoner's personal rifle, but at one time Kalishnikov came to visit, and the two greats of the Cold War era relaxed on a rifle range... with that very rifle. *awe smiley here*
Kinda neat seeing history right before your eyes.
It's been a nice day. :)
