Im somewhat tired of people who keep posting prices for various models of handgun and rifle/shotgun as well, without regard to the location of the person who is asking.

for example, someone asks for a 38 spcl revolver, and they always get told, "get a used smith for 300, or a used ruger for 350"

however most fail to recognize that a model 20 may sell for 250-300 in arizona, but 900 miles away, the market is different and the price can easily be twice what the arizona price is.

street price can vary a lot but thanks to sites like gunbroker it keeps those prices down

edit
Just crossed my mind after I posted but I"ve seen the price change dramatically with in a 3 hour drive to a larger flea market

And they are usually quoting a once in a life time price that they got 20 years ago.

i would hope poster would avoid posting that "once in a lifetime" price as it would give the OP an unreasonable expectations when shopping.

on the other hand, with the availability of the internet, it's pretty easy to quote a J&S or CDNN price which is generally available nationwide...just add shipping, tax and transfer fees to get a representative price. i've found a big part of the problem is folks asking for information without giving their location to start with...we're not asking for your street address, a state or region would al least help

You got my attention with that subject line. I just had to see what you were talking about.

The interesting thing is that pricing guides rarely take that into account either.

yep......

I generally always take those posts, just like the posts about what a "sweet deal I got on a 30 year old NIB model 29", with a grain of salt. Gun nutz are like fishermen, except the fish doesn't grow everytime the story is told, the price of the gun gets cheaper.
