Hello,

I have a older .38 cal S&W revolver that was left by a relative.
Data: cal 38, the barrel measures 5" and the serial number is 173972, marked on the bottom of the gun. No additional marks.

The gun is in Southern Brazil.

Thanks for your help!

No additional marks.
If it doesn't have S&W patent dates, address, and the S&W monogram on the frame, barrel & grips, it isn't a S&W.

A great many counterfeit S&W's were made in Spain about 100 years ago.
They sold a ton of them in South America in the early to mid 1900's.

This just popped up here recently:

Thanks RC,
In fact the gun has a "SMITH & WESSON" mark on the side, but it could be a counterfeit. I don't have it with me now, but I will post more info when I have time to check additional marks on it. Thanks for your help so far!
