The reasons are all around us if people just care to look. I'm not 21 yet so can't own a handgun, but I plan on carrying as soon as I'm legal and proficient with a handgun. Just the other day I got a wake up call that really reminded me why. It wasn't even a person. I was nearly attacked by an extremely large dog in a Walmart parking lot of all places. Thankfully I know how to control my body language with animals and relax, so the dog backed off. That said I still felt pretty nervous with nothing more than a folding pocket knife and a snarling dog bearing down on me.

Carrying for self defense is not just for people! Animals are a good reason to carry as well.

Problem is, antis do not object to off-duty police officers carrying. They are conditioned to believe that police officers are somehow more qualified with, and less prone to accidents involving firearms, compared to law abiding private citizens. So unfortunately, this story does not further our cause.

We've had 4 bad guys shot and killed by concealed carry holders, or by homeowners, in the last 4 months in my home town. I don't have to look far for evidence.

But if you want hundreds and hundreds of cases, go to The Armed Citizen (http://www.thearmedcitizen.com/). He has been archiving self defense cases since November 2003.
