I have a Norinco that I am toying with the idea of selling to fund a .308 bolt gun. Whats the best "tactical/varmit" bolt gun for the money? If I had my way it would be a remington tactical or fn patrol rifle, but those are too much $$$. I found it difficult to scope the Norinco cheaply, and although a nice rifle, with the cost of .308 I am thinking I should move to a bolt gun. Am I losing it?

Yes, I think you are losing it. The cost of .308 isn't going to go down when you buy a bolt gun; you just might not shoot it quite as rapid. And, .308 isn't an ideal varmit gun. I'm not entirely sure why you say you can't scope the Norinco cheaply, a scope's price is independent of what platform you put it on. Now, if your referring to the cost of the mount, yes, those can cost a bit. Look at a Bassett mount, the absolute best for the money.

Now, if your set on a bolt gun, then get one. I just wouldn't want to see you sell the rifle for the wrong reasons.

Losing it? Not at all. Bolt guns dominate precision and long-range shooting for good reasons.

Look at the Savage. Great value for money.
