Remington 158gr LSWCHP+P (R38S12)
Fired two rounds from a S&W442 into water jugs at a distance of 10', Both penetrated 3 jugs each and expanded to about .61 each.
No chronograph, Sorry.
Maybe this lot was softer lead than some other tests I have seen, Which typically penetrate 4 water jugs and expand to about .59
Here you can see it in action, bouncing off the fourth jug.
And here the expanded slug is compared to an unfired round, a .45ACP and a .22LR.

I've heard the Rem's are softer lead than Wins and others, so that may explain the penetration.

I use the Remington FBI Load in short barrel revolvers because they do use a softer alloy than the other companies do. The Winchester and Federal offerings are fine in 4" barrel revolvers but I reserve the Remington R38S12 ammo for the snubys.
Thanks for the report and pictures...

even though it is an old cartridge. I have used it for years and it has a proven record on its side as well. It will expand even more in human tissue than your water jugs.

Some good reading here on the same subject.

Some people doubt the performance of the FBI load in short barrels but I still think the differences are negligible.
Here is a current thread with some good info on it as well.

I have remi in my snub, but I just bought some of this http://georgia-arms.com/38special158grleadsemi-wadcutterhollowpointp100pk-1.aspx in any of my .38's 4"+ barrels. It shoots the same POA as the remi at 50% of the price...and its in stock!
