The next shotgun I obtain will most likely be a double of some sort. Either an O/U or SXS is acceptable, but I would suppose simply because of the ratio it'll be an O/U.

My question is this: Which brand/model will be the friendliest to the left handed shooter? I'm a game gunner, can't eat clay ya know, so the high round count comfort of trap, skeet, or clays is a null point to me. I suppose I'm specifically concerned with the cast-on/neutral/cast-off aspects of the buttstock.

That is, unless you know of some other specific characteristics that would make the mechanism itself better for a south-paw.

I presently do own other left hand friendly shotguns, just not an O/U or SXS.

Most shotguns made in the US or for this market have neutral cast. Tang safeties and opening levers have few drawbacks operated sinistrally, IMO.

As a RH shooter who does some shooting from the off side, I see no reason NOT to get a doublegun. Maybe the Southpaw contingent can shed more light....

There are custom mirror image double guns with cast on stocks, top lever that moves to the left instead of the right and double triggers set up for a south paw. They are fairly rare, not inexpensive and probably not what you are looking for.

Of the production guns I've found Brownings usually come with the straightest stocks and that target guns usually have more cast than hunting guns. Rugers often come without cast also.

Berettas almost always come with some cast off but left handed stocks are available. Rich Cole has a good selection but a new stock is not cheap:

As a lefty I second what's already said. I buy righty doubles and addapt, I stick with american (now a BSS) and after strugling with double triggers I am more comfortable with the single trigger. If your thinking about getting a stock bent, try to find a model with a thinner wrist, I learned the hard way with an o/u that had a thick pistol grip stock.
