AR-15, Springfield mil spec 1911, or browning Hi-Power .40? I plan on getting all of 'em; just which one first? Oh and please disregard the 20" thing on the poll from now on- just leave it at AR.

AR's are and'll be even MORE around soon enough. 1911, OK. Hi Power, in .40? Classic, useful, effective, F.U.N!

"What new gun?" Sounds like what I say when my wife asks me about a gun...........

20" AR's are too long.
Browning HP's are best in 9mm.
The .40 S&W version is over-sprung and heavy for a .40.

Me I got the AR-15, 1911 and then a CZ P01 9mm (75 Compact), in that order! I voted AR.

I said AR because every new AR owner means they are that much more in common use and will help against any AWB proposals of the future. There aren't any pending, but just in case one day...

really it depends on what you have already.

if you had a handgun already then i would say the ar, but that i don't know for sure if you do or dont.

I agree that we need to know what you already have to make an informed suggestion.

I like my 1911s a little more dressed up than milspec and I don't particularly enjoy shooting .40 S&W, so I picked the AR. I'm not a huge fan of .223 but I do think I'm going to have to build one some day. Maybe if I find the right alternate caliber...

Go with the AR. There is a lull right now in the political climate.

Once health care is behind us, other social agenda items are sure to follow. All it takes is a hint of legislation and prices will jump again.
