I just picked up my new(to me) Yugoslavian M24/47 Mauser and a few boxes of Igman 170 gr. SP 8x57mm. Anybody know how this stuff shoots out of this type of rifle? Someone told me that this stuff might be loaded a bit hot, could this be a problem?
With the cosmoline gone, it looks to be in pretty good shape, but the stock has seen some better days.

I've heard second hand that some of the soft nose ammo has been difficult to feed in the M48 because of the follower interaction with the chamber. As far as the 24/47, I have not heard anything.

My friend's Yugo M48 didn't have any problems with it, and I was there when he shot it too.
It was good ammo as far as we were concerned, non-corrosive, relatively inexpensive, and being soft-point could be used for hunting if needed.

Please let me know how your 24/47 does. I get to shoot mine far too little.
I have looked at Igman online, and consider it to be expensive. I may have to try it if you get favorable results.

I've used Igman and S&B in an M48. No problems feeding or firing.
As I recall the S&B seemed a bit more accurate.

I bought 6 boxes of Igman 8mm for my VZ-24. Shot fine, and I found out that my barrel is just about shot out!

Thanks for the responses, I'll try to get out and shoot it sometime within the next couple of weeks.
the CZ,
Are you trying to say that this ammo wore your barrel out, or did you just happen to find out that your barrel was shot out while you were shooting it?

The ammo had no ill effects on my rifle. Previously I had fired a bunch of ecuadorian 8mm I think it was that all the stores in my area had. It was corrosive, but I think the barrel was on it's way out before that. It shoots about a 5" circle at 100 yards if I'm lucky. I had great results with Igman, it's cheap, shoots great, and isn't a wimped down commercial version like all the American companies put out.

Check out the "any decent Turk ammo thread". 3300 rds for $125 = ~$0.04/rd. You can buy an awful lot of anti-corrosive barrel cleaner at that price...:D :D
