Shooting a thumbhole stock from prone?

I have been looking at replacing the stock on my Savage MkII FVT. I use this rifle for prone shooting with a sling. The factory plastic stock flexes like sin and it is made for iron sights that ride the barrel, not sitting 1.5" above the barrel. So to get a better cheek weld and to fix flex I have been looking at getting a new stock. There are a couple stocks that look like they would work well, such as one from SSS, but that is a $200 stock. If I am to spend that money on this rifle I would rather put it towards something used that was built for prone shooting. I see a lot of laminate thumbhole stocks available. If I am willing to take a blemish or two I can get one for a very affordable price.

My concern comes in that I have never seen a prone class stock that was a thumbhole stock. I haven't used a thumbhole stock before and I don't really know if it would be conducive to prone shooting. Any opinions here?

It works fine for me. I have a Savage Mark II BWTVXP with the factory laminate thumbhole stock and have no problems shooting prone. It comes with an extra front swivel if you want to use a bipod. It is one of the most comfortable stocks I own.

Rumor is that Boyd's will be selling the Mark II TR stocks some time later this spring. I have a Mark II TR and it is very good prone. (also has an extra swivel)

like this?Well, we all know that you can't shoot that little plinker prone.

Thumbhole in prone position is a good combination, at least it is for me. If anything I find offhand to be the worst position (workable, just a little awkward for me) with a thumbhole stock.

I guess it wouldn't be an issue. The NM guys shoot a pistol grip AR from prone with a sling, and thats basically the same thing as a thumbhole stock. I guess I'll give it a try. That TR stock looks interesting though. The seconds thumbhole stocks are dirt cheap anymore, like under $40. Its hard to justify a different stock with that pricing.
