Bond Arms, the derringer manufacturer, is offering barrels that are cosmetically challenged at half-price. All calibers offered by Bond Arms are available. I ordered one in .327 Federal Magnum. and it looks just like my full-price barrels. I ordered early this week, and the barrel showed up at my home today. My daughter and I could not find why this barrel is a second; it looks perfect.

If they can't control cosmetics, I wonder what else might be going out of spec that we may not see?

Ahhhh, But they did catch the blemished ones, Inspected them for functionality/safety and released the functional ones to the public. The link says the blems are pits. Most likley from the metal manufacturing process, not the machining process that they do to turn raw stock into a finished barrell. much like the "blems" tire manufacturers sell. Nothing functional or safety wrong with them.

I cannot find a reason for my .327 Federal Magnum barrel to be a second; it looks perfect to me. The bores are well polished and rifled, and the chambers look perfect. I need to make a cast of the chambers before I start loading for it.

Hello all, RON L here - SERE SURPLUS
Just as in the case with "Cold Stee"l knives, when I used to buy them at the show in calif, I never did see why many were sold as seconds? It's many times that they have an Over run, some slight difference or change of Model of price? That makes the seconds sales rise? Enjoy and as long as it functions your golden! Most thought sold as is, are fully covered by the company, i'm sure?

Every manufacturing company has issues with cosmetics at some point. The fact that a worker scuffed a barrel while polishing or accidentally gouged a spot with a screwdriver means nothing in terms of functionality.
If Bond Arms had even the slightest doubt about the safety or servicability of these barrels, do you really think they'd allow them to be sold? They're not exactly Jimenez Arms, folks.
