GLOOB March 23, 2010, 05:46 AM I'm interested in the FNP-9. But I've noticed that the FNP .45 is getting all the love and attention in these forums. Why is that? Is there something wrong with the FNP-9?
Who's got one? Who's got both? Opinions?

Stephen A. Camp March 23, 2010, 09:12 AM Hello.

Best.
NG VI March 23, 2010, 02:31 PM I own an FNP-9M, I love it. It is probably my favorite pistol. They have superb sights, small grips, very good economy of space in those little grips (not very big but still holds 16 rounds in the full size version), a foolproof backstrap system, and smooth triggers.
Oh and they are pretty slim too, much less bulky than a comparable Sig.
Chicken-Farmer March 23, 2010, 02:40 PM My wife's CCW is an FNP-9. Very nice pistol. DA/SA with a hammer decocker. The recoil is very light and the pistol itself is very steady under recoil, not flippy. The pistol is shipped with 3 15 rd magazines and is made in America! Very good product for no a whole lot of money.

Leafy Cronmer March 23, 2010, 02:55 PM Great gun I love to shoot it and it has only given me one problem. I was able to activate the take down lever when the slide was not locked back. A quick trip to FN and its back in my line up and I take It every time I go to the range. If you can get a good price I would jump on it you wont regret it. Also a huge selling point for me was it fit my hand perfectly and all the controls seemed to be in the perfect position for my hand.
The FN FNP45 is a slightly different platform, different grip, and something like a lower axis .... something like that. Its more like the FNX 9. My suggestion would be handle them, and shoot them if you can.
One last note, it's a little hard to find holsters.
gbw March 23, 2010, 03:14 PM Are the FNXs out yet? Or does anyone know when? I'm interested in the 9mm. Supposed to be 10%+ lighter than the older versions, with a safety.
gearhead March 23, 2010, 04:03 PM You can get a safety on the FNP-9 and FNP-40 also, they're just less common.
To answer the OP's question, the FNP-9 is an excellent, very reliable and durable handgun. It's just not the Flavor of the Month, so it doesn't get a lot of buzz as the latest and greatest.
Runningman March 23, 2010, 04:27 PM Better off going to a FNX, it should have all the latest improvements. The FNP has had it's share of problems. Do some searching for "FNP trigger group" for starters. The FN forum has lots of information.
Bill_G March 23, 2010, 04:51 PM i've got one.
most under rated 9mm out there.
stingrr March 23, 2010, 08:39 PM One here too,
Great gun, accurate, light, not a lot of recoil.
I will probably get an FNX also, when it comes out.
FCastle88 March 23, 2010, 08:48 PM The FNP-9 is a pretty good gun, my only complaints are the somewhat flimsy decocker and I'd prefer a metal trigger. I got mine from CDNN for $465 shipped, some places are selling them for $550, not sure I'd spend that much on one. The FNX fixes the decocker at least, but nobody really knows when it's being released, FN was saying March but nobody's heard anything lately.

Tucker Gun Leather now makes a Silent Thunder for the FNP-9/40. A great IWB holster IMHO.
And, yes, it is a very good gun and an incredible deal for the money. Sometimes referred to as a "poor man's Sig."
Strahley March 24, 2010, 11:40 AM They are excellent
mslatter March 26, 2010, 01:25 AM I dry fired one in the store the other day, on the advice of the clerk. The trigger was very nice in DA. The SA trigger had next to no discernible break at firing. It was very smooth, but I'm wondering how predictable it would be. I like a little notchier feel. But it was overall a very, very solid weapon, and it's on my short list. I found a range that rents them but haven't been out to try it yet.

Just less bulky, lighter, and with a decocker that isn't roughly where you would expect the slide release/lock to be.
MSlatter what do you mean by notchy? The trigger pull you described is pretty much ideal, you'll know when it fires, and you really shouldn't try to stage a trigger, you'llshoot better and it's safer to just master a single smooth pull-through.
