Hi, y'all,

Since I enjoy and spend so much time looking at gun photos on this and other sites, I thought I would share some pictures of my new Ahrends Boot Grips I just got for my S&W Model 66-5. I'm no photographer but they turned out all right.

Purty, ain't it?

Nice! I haven't tried boot grips on a K yet--think it would still be easy to control and easy to conceal.

Ooooh... that is nice. Looks to be a fine carry piece.

I like those grips ! They make the 4" gun more concealable as well. As a long time user of the K-frame, I have to say good choice in gun and grips.

Thanks everybody. Being a 4-incher, I tried to find suitable round-to-square conversion boot grips but didn't have any luck, so I finally decided to just stick with the round butt style. I've got to say, it looks and feels really good.

Wow. I have a 4" Model13 that was a square that I converted to a round. It currently wears pachmyers and I am pleased. Those grips are beautiful and the fit is nice.

Be careful with gun cleaners on those Ahrens grips.

That is the brand that S&W uses on the 327 8-shot PC snubbie I have. The very first time I cleaned it, the gun cleaner I use dissolved the finish on the grips!

That cleaner, MPro 7, is sooooo gentle that I have used it for over a decade on EVERY gun I have owned, and it has never attacked ANYTHING. In fact, the maker of it says you can wash your hands in it, and I often DO! Yet, it dissolved the finish on these grips.

So, be careful.

the gun cleaner I use dissolved the finish on the grips!

Actually, I've stripped the polyurethane finish that came on them and am going back with an oil finish. I've also trimmed away some of the wood in certain areas to make them fit my hand better. I'll post pictures when I'm all done.

Nice, I've been pondering getting a set of his Retro Combat Square Butt grips for my 4" 64. Tung oil finished walnut would look nice I think :)

Thanks for showing these off - my next bit of mad money will have to go to Iowa.

Here are some photos since I modified the grips. I removed the bottom finger groove entirely, rounded off the sharp edges at the speedloader cutout where my thumb rests, and removed a good bit of wood behind the trigger guard so as to get a bit higher grip on the gun. Finally, I refinished the grips with tung oil. End result, what was originally a great grip is now a perfect grip (for me).
