Well another first season has come and gone, only this time out of a party of 7 hunters we managed to come home with only 1 deer. A doe, average in size, it was the hunters first kill ever actually his first hunt so his dad is proud, but my weekend didnt go so well. We usualyy get into our stands, blinds at least an hour and a half before sunset, what did we find at this time, a couple of poachers out shining, got there damn 2wd vehicle stuck in state forest land that is barely accesible by 4wd and only by authorized vehicles(meaning state vehicles) 5am screaming and hollering, tires spinning, engine racing probably scared every deer in the damn county. Course theyre drunk, and of course later in the day back at camp they have a deer, gotten by illegal means I am sure. I have to say that I am sick and tired of the poaching and the drunks in the field. This is what give all gunowners a bad name. I cant say what we would have done to the guys truck if he had left it to get help but I think its time that this BS stops. You want to hunt go in the field and hunt you want to drink alcohol,(I dont care if its only one beer) GO TO A @#$%$%# BAR STAY THE HELL OUT OF THE FIELD. End of rant.

Did anyone call the Game Wardens to address these violators? Another good reason to carry a cell phone while hunting. We (sportsmen) are the eyes and ears for Conservation Law Enforcement. Don't get too discouraged.

They would have HAD to go for help if you flattened them rear tires!
Stay out of sight though, you got at least a hundred yard hole poker if your huntin deer ;)

Frustrating and aggravating--and I've also given thought to the fun of ruining a crook's vehicle. Problem is, that can put me on the wrong side of the law, and I don't need to be there.

Evidence gathering (license plate), reporting to the law, and then willingness to testify is the way to go. Without the last, of course, the first two are meaningless...

But it ain't easy to be patient and proper.

cameras are great things to have in the woods, all sorts of practical uses ;)
