So here is the situation. I have a 10fp on the way. Did some research on optics and still don't have a clear decision yet.

but, what kind of base and scopes rings should i look into?

Thanks

What kind of quality are you wanting?

You can go with middle of the road stuff like Leupold bases and rings, Burris stuff....

If you want top notch bases and mounts, and need to go the picatinny rail rout for scope positioning then Ken Farrell http://www.kenfarrell.com/ will be the one, he makes the very best picatinny rails and rings, and if you need absolute symmetry, Farrell offers matched machined ring sets and ring and base sets.

Along the picatinny rail line you can use Brownells rails and rings, they are pretty good and Brownells offers many different manufacturers also.

If you want to use two piece mounts, the best out there will be the Talley brand ring mounts.http://www.talleymanufacturing.com/index.php

I cannot recommend gamereaper DNZ mounts enough. You at least owe them a good look.

Once you try em every other scope ring will become obsolete in your mind

Maybe I should be more clear, are there certain bases or rings that will work better on a Savage 10fp than others?

+1 ^ I'm with Uncle Mike on his recommendations.

The use dictates the setup. In which case some setups work better than others. The difference is quality.

Maybe you need to let us know what will be using the rifle for: short, mid, long range target, hunting, both.

What kind of scope? Does the scope/use need the additional adjustment from a 10,15,20 MOA base?

Are you going to carry it a lot for distance, or short trips, a few ounces of weight eventually adds up.

I run a Ken Farrell base with Warne Maxima low rings. Very sturdy but the rail type bases are gonna be taller than a 2 piece, dovetail set up. My scope could go lower, but rings shorter than .250 are hard to find.
