The entire cartridge is grey. .

headstamp is aym 68. So likely to be corrosive.
Came in plain grey boxes, on stripper clips which were marked bxn 68.. quite curious.

It is Czech 7.62x39 made in 1968. But why it is that color I can not tell you.

The bullet is steel... at least magnetic. So guess the entire thingie is painted to prevent rust. Ah well... luckily only have 80 rounds of the stuff.

Looks like steel coated with an epoxy-phenolic lacquer to prevent/delay corrosion. Pretty typical for Commie Block ammo.
