Which brand of night sights offer replacements for when they dim? I am interested in getting a Glock 30SF with night sights. Specifically does Glock or Trijicon have a replacement plan? Thanks.

Does anyone know if that's good on night sights that Trijicon does OEM for, but doesn't actually sell? I.e. XS, some gun company's factory night sights?

Trijicon will replace lamps for a fee when they dim out. This is not correct.
They will only replace it free during the warrenty period.
Green & yellow are guaranteed for 12 years by Trijicon and Meprolite.
Orange and other colors only for 5 years.

The half life of Tritium is 12.33 years.
That means that in 12 1/3 years, the brightness will only be half as bright as it was in the beginning.

But not all colors are created equal.
This is due to the phosphor that causes the color degrades faster then the tritium gas that makes it glow.
The tritium gas doesn't glow itself, but only excites the phosphors.

Tru-Glow and some other brands are only guaranteed for 5 years regardless of the color.

I have green Meprolites on a Glock I put on in 1995.
Or 15 years ago.
They are getting very dim, but are still usable, if just barely.

The best I recall Trijicon are steel sights, Mepro are Aluminum sights, I've heard some preffer one over the other based on sight picture ect. ( think it's the Tijicons that have the bigger circles around the windows some people dislike (you can see the metal ampule tube where it meets the glass)...I always liked Trijicon better myself...good company and good customer service....so I'd probably go that way over Mepros...I've had both on guns but currently don't own anything with night sights...honestly the best thing I've ever found about them is I can see where my gun is on the nightstand when I rolled over at night...and kinda dug that. Not sure it's a "gotta have it" option in the real world but maybe more of a "why not?" when I had GLOCKS I liked em because hey...it got rid of the plastic factory sights and what else do you really need to do to a GLOCK anyway? (don't like extended this or that or plugs ect) I did sometime replace their guidrod with a wolf one piece steel and go a up a couple pounds on springs from Wolf...that really about all I've ever swapped on a GLOCK...I did have one with a lonewolf grip reduction once...it had mepros on it...loved that 19! The mepros seemed about as good as the others to me. Should have kept it that gun! ehhh...-Now I shoot XD's no need to fill & grind the grip to fit...they come feelin great! HHhhhmmmm you know...I guess maybe I need to put night sights on my shopping list...they don't really need anything else either (other than trigger jobs at some point possibly) but they all work good the way they are for now.

trijicon really has been great to deal with for several customers over the years...if you end up with something new that they don't have sights for you can send em the slide and they'll make YOUR sights into night sights if they have room to be drilled and ampules installed for reasonable money...never heard of mepro doing that...in all fairness I've never asked. When in doubt buy from the better company with beter service IMHO...I'd vote Tijicon...steel sounds better than aluminum to me...they cost about the same last time I checked.

Mepro are Aluminum sights,I have adjustable Meps on a Glock 23 and fixed Meps in a SIG.

Both are steel front & rear sights.

12/11/09: Called customer service and was quoted the following prices:
Install replacement lamps in S&W 9mm Sigma for $18 each ($54 total). $54 includes return shipping.
My Sigma's sights are still plenty usable (dated 1998), but they don't jump out at you like my new units.

Trijicon front sight is bigger/brighter than rears-I thought 'bout going the different front/rear sight color route, but the bigger/brighter front Trijicon naturally draws my eye to it, so I went with all green.

All I know is Meps were steel 15 years ago when I bought my first set, and they were steel two years ago when I bought my last set.

Meprolites are made in Israel, and commercial ones where an offshoot of the Israeli Defense Force demand for combat night sights.
I doubt they ever made them out of aluminum.

i personally prefer xs big dot night sights for defense and that is what is on my defensive handguns. if i was gonna go with three dot sights then i prefer the trijicon, the half life of tritium is 12. something years, and if something that cost about $100 serves me that well for that long, i am not gonna complain about having to replace them, and if the company does replace the lamps for anything less that what a new set would cost than i couldn't be happier about it.

I knew that there were complanies that would replace the sights during the warranty period, but it never even crossed my mind that they would replace the sights after that, and i doubt that they will(for free i mean).

honestly i will have retired my gun before it will be time for my sights to be dimmed. at a minimim of 15k + rounds a year (for me) in a handgun that is alot of rounds, and if it has been that good for me for that long, i will retire it to the safe(or use it as a training gun), and buy another just like it. which is exactly what i am gonna do when i get home, buy another xd service model .40 and keep shooting and training.

This is not correct.
They will only replace it free during the warrenty period.
He said "fee." BTW.
