Hopefully this type of post is permissible, but if not, I hope the mods will delete it or tell me to...
I'm going to be in the Grand Rapids area this Friday and Saturday and was wondering if anyone can recommend some good shops in the area.

I assume your from the downriver area-ish (from your location) and will be traveling north on either I-75 or taking 94-23-75 (i am from the Southgate/Taylor area and my grandparents live in the Atlanta MI area so i've made this trip myself many, many times), try 'Gunsgalore" in Fenton, also check and see if the Gibraltar trade center in Mt Clemons will be hosting a gun show that weekend.
Other than these, i'm not sure.

Silver Bullet Firearms is one of the best in GR.

Silver Bullet is one of the best in the State of MI. Guns Galore is great if you want to treated like crap. Good for a grin. Plus it is on the east side of the state so I dont know how it pertains to the thread at all.
My favorite is Bobs Gun and Tackle in Hastings. It is a little out of the way from GR though. I would make the hour and some trip from the Lansing area once a week to check things out.

Ditch-Tiger, it sounds like you're thinking of the Gaylord/Grayling area up north. Atlanta is east of there. Grand Rapids is way over on the west side of the state. As it happens, I live about 10 miles from GunsGalore in Fenton and it's everything folks say it is. I'll leave it at that.
earlthegoat2 - I don't think we'll be in the Hastings area, but if we are I'll check out Bob's Gun and Tackle. It must be good if it drew you there every week.
We've got two votes for Silver Bullet so I'll make sure I check them out. Any others? We may venture over to Lake Michigan while we're there, so any in the Holland or Muskegon area?

Silver Bullet is a really nice store with good counter people and a large indoor firing range. Prices are not as cheap as Guns Galore but the store is much nicer.
If you're going to be in Muskegon be sure to check out Gary's Guns--located a mile or two west of US 31 on Apple Ave, south side of road. Small store but with LOTS of stuff in there, prices not to bad. Regards,

I concur Silver Bullet on S. Division is a nice store. They have a large selection of rental guns you can try. If you want a quick try-out of something, you give them a ten dollar bill which covers the gun rental and ten rounds of ammo. A target is provided as well as ear muffs if you need them. I've saved myself hundreds of dollars this way. A gun looks good in the magazine/internet, but is horrible to shoot. Here is the place to find out, not at your range after you made a purchase.
Leave there and head north, staying on S. Division, to 3100 and stop into Al & Bob's.
Their gun department is small but their prices are very good.
I think it's on 28th st., the MC Sporting Goods store is the place for the best prices of all. Usually they have an excellent selection of guns and ammo.
Don't even both with Gander Mountain, there are two stores in town. Poor selection and outrageous prices on everything.
Also do not bother with the pawn shops. I have hit every one of 'em and if you find anything at all it will be an old .22 or rusty shotgun.

Gary's Guns is actually east of US 31 about 4 miles. Nail is correct about being on south side though. Nice little shop & good people.
