oil and sand

What is the best method for lubricating an autoloader that will be in a holster exposed to desert sand for a week or two on the trail? It seems to me that oil will make a gunky, abrasive mess when sand comes into contact with it. It is a hassle to constantle clean a gun in the field, but sand often gets into everything if the wind kicks up.
Does anyone have experience with drying teflon-based lubricants? I use that White Lightning stuff on my mountain bike chain and it sheds the sand and dirt while still lubricating, but I don't know if it will hold up.

I bought a can of stuff called "dry film lubricant" at Wally World. I've been using it on a couple of pieces that see a lot of pocket carry. They have been much less prone to pick up lint and other debris since I started using it. Also slicks their triggers up nicely. I'd use a dry lube or no lube and also a flap holster that encloses as much of the gun as possible.

If you can see the oil on your pistol, you are using too much.
Modern gun oils with teflon lubes are meant to be applied, worked into action, and then wiped off. The lubrication penetrates microscopically.
