I'm using Sierra 165SBT
I have been using 3031 with pretty good results, however
I would like to up the Velocity, but when I do the Accuracy goes south.
Volocity right now is right at 2480 fps
I would like it to be atleast 2600 fps
I am no where near Max load, but if I up the charge, Accuracy goes south.
So I'm thinking a Slower Burn rate might help and I have Varget on the shelf.
Barrel is 24"

Regardless of any recommendation, there is never a guarantee for accuracy. Too many variables.
If you go to www.hodgdon.com and view the load data listed, be aware that this is the most current data available.
You will note that either powder that you mentioned has recommended starting loads that should exceed your goal of 2600fps at very safe pressures.
Like I said, there are too many variables to guarantee that they will be accurate for you, but similar loads have proven to be accurate for others.

Hylander7 you are on the right track with a slower powder for that weight bullet and heavier.IMR 4350 will give you everything your after and more.

Thanks guys
I realize I have to work up a load and every rifle is different but just wanted to see what seems to work for most to give me a starting point.
I have seen several mentions of 4350 so I will give it a try

Your velocity seems low for that bullet. I am betting that you have found one accuracy node but there is still another one just a little bit higher. I'm not advising exceeding book recommendations, it's just that I have seen the same thing in 270 and 30-06 load development many times and just a little more powder gave me both accuracy and speed.

My favorite 30-06 load right now is 58.0gr H4350 under both a Sierra 165gr GameKing and 168gr MatchKing bullet. In my rifles both are very accurate loads. The charge weight for IMR4350 is slightly different.

I haven't tried Varget in my 30-06 yet but I'm told the accuracy falls off a little when you use it with bullets over 150gr. I don't see why that would happen but that's what I've been told by a few different reloaders.
