I have been looking at the new Smith & Wesson 1911, and have not heard anyone who has one review the cons and pros. Is it cuz no one has one?

Not a review, but a general impression:

I'm really an impressed with the value of this gun. Accuracy like this, out of the box, and for only $660!!

I've since swapped out the trigger for one I like bettter, but other than that, I plan on just shooting the heck out it.

Bought one a couple weeks ago. Shot it last week. Whooo-Boy!! I am really impresed by it. Not a single malfunction of any sort after, get this, 200 rounds of the dreaded Wolf .45 auto ammo (Dirty, tho). [Could it be that big honkin' EXTERNAL extractor yanking out those dirty, laquered Wolf mild steel cases? Being a mauser bolt-gun man, the sight of a large extractor warms my heart.]

Really honkin' accurate (POI 5" to left at 25 yards, tho...when I choose a carry ammo, I'll drift the sight over to POA).

Just plain good quality. If you've owned one of their better revos, you know what I'm talking about. I can't believe I waited this long to pick up a 1911.

The Wilson Combat 8-round mags worked swimmingly. I plan on getting another 2 for competition (and some USGI 7-rounders, too).

Only mod I'll make is to get a set of McCormick ultra-thin wood grips. I am not a fan of rubber/neoprene grips or standard thickness grips on a 1911.

Other than that, I'll keep it box-stock.

Buy one & you won't regret it (unless that's food out the mouths of yer babes, in which case, buy the food, FTLOG).

I don't have one... and I wanted very much to not like it... but from the examples that I have seen and handled - it has a lot going for it. Looks handsome, feels good in the hand. Feels like a right proper government model.
I think a Commander and Officer's version would make my knees weak.

I have also recently purchased a S&W1911. I paid $680.00 NIB from a local pawn shop. This is my first 1911 so I can't compare it to any other brand.

My first shot with this gun was a dead center bullseye!! I was on a 15 yd range at my club. Haven't shot it at 25 yds yet. I ran 100 rounds of Winchester white box 230gr FMJ (ball) ammo thru it that first day without a single problem. The muzzle flip wasn't near what I was expecting to be honest. For the 100 rnd session I averaged 2" - 2.5" groups. The Wilson mags worked flawlessly although I think the plastic followers are cheap and may break easily if abused. About the only bitch I could honestly put on the gun was the trigger. The takeup was a tad more than I expected. The edges of the trigger were sharp and left my finger tender after I was done. One of the wife's emery boards solved that problem easy enough.

I looked it over pretty closely when I broke it down to clean. I didn't do a full breakdown, just a field stripping. All parts looked well machined without any rough or excessive machining marks. The slide has a solid lockup with the frame. Mine does have a small amount of horizontal play but virtually no vertical play at all. I noticed the mags also have a bit of play when inserted into the magwell. Not sure if that is normal or not since I'm a 1911 newbie.

For the $$ I'm extremely pleased with this pistol. Looking forward to becoming more proficient with it. She's a keeper for sure. I don't think you'll be disappointed with one.
