Hello, can somebody tell me if all duel trigger shotgun are the same as to firing the barrels? On a SXS front trigger fire the right and rear fire the left?
Over and Under front trigger shoots the lower or upper Barrel?

Thanks everyone

The longtime standard is for the right or lower barrel to have the more open choke, and the front trigger to fire that barrel. The left or upper barrel will have a tighter choke, and the rear trigger fires it. On a bird flying away, you pull the front trigger first, then slip to the rear trigger.

HOWEVER... With screw-in chokes you can obviously decide which choke goes where. Even with fixed chokes, some guns may be swapped, especially if they're intended for shooting incoming birds. There's nothing saying that a gun HAS to be set up according to the norm; it's just the most common way you'll see.

I've seen the trigger selection reversed on some older English SxS guns that were built for driven pheasant shooting. Or the right barrel is bored full choke and the left barrel more open. The first shot on an incoming high bird is further away while the second shot might be directly overhead or at least closer.

Both folks gave very correct data, so it would help to know what the original purpose of the gun was. IF for driven birds, the chokes will be reversed. Typically on a "regular" hunting version, or target version, the lower barrel will be the more open choke and the top will be the tighter.

That being said, the pattern board will be able to tell you better. A friend has an older Merkel O/U with double triggers. His right trigger fired the lower barrel which was the more open of the two chokes. (He has since had Briley put thin wall chokes in and another 30's era Merkel trap gun which was choked tight and tighter.

I know you're very knowledgeable, ArmedBear, but are you sure? It is my understanding that the lower barrel generally has the tighter choke (in fixed choke guns); at least it is that way in both of my O/Us: an old 12 Belgian Browning Superposed and an a&f Beretta 20. The 20 has double triggers, front trigger is lower barrel.

Can't say how your guns are set up. If they are set up with a tighter bottom barrel, that's not standard for either a Beretta or a Superposed AFAIK, at least as imported into the US.

However, there's nothing saying a given gun has to be configured in any particular way, especially if you don't know its history.:)

Belgian Superposeds were designed to fire the bottom barrel first, then the top and the more open choke was the bottom choke. Again, IF the gun is set up for driven birds, then things would be reversed

Hmmm...then perhaps my gun got some special treatment from a former owner. It has a bbl selector safety switch, so which-tube-is-tighter is not a game-changer for me.

A good thing to keep in mind, though, if i ever go for a lookalike gun for a matched pair.
