There are two versions. The original one with grenade launcher is illegal. There is a note on the California's Attorney General Firearm division about it.
However, there is also a modified version with the launcher removed, and replaced by a muzzle break. Century Arms sells one of this SKS. It is legal for California.
The price for California legal Yugo SKS runs around $150 to $300, depending on how much a dealer feels like charging for it.

I have one with the muzzle break from century. I also have a couple coming that have a sleeve welded over the grenade launcher. Personally I wish we could get them with the launchers so no one having to weld stuff on them to sell them here in california, but the muzzle breaks are actually pretty nice. Here's the ones I just ordered. $109 plus $20 conversion plus shipping. Here's the link http://www.interordnance.com/ Mark

I can't believe the price dropped so low! I paid $180 just a few months ago! Even though it's been totally reliable, I might just pick up a spare one at that price ;) .

Sheldon, that's where I got my 1st yugo. A couple of things, the ad says "very good condition" on the century arms box the rifle I got was rated as just good condition from century even though my rifle is actually pretty nice. Second the salesman was a jerk and a liar. Me and my buddy wanted to each buy a rifle. The salesman tells us there is only 2 in the back so if we want a different one it would have to be from the warehouse so basicly you have no choice if you want to look at the rifle before buying it. When me and my buddy were almost done with the paperwork we can hear the same guy talking to the other salesman about there being more rifles in the back. I didn't say anything because the rifle I got is nice and I didn't want to have to pay the fees again to start a new transaction. I just get tired of some of the boneheads from Turner's but we are pretty limited now in so cal for places to buy firearms. Mark
