I have an 1851 pietta colt and was wondering if I could replace the 7 1/2 barrel with a 5 1/2 barrel. Would this work?

I just received a "Spring Spectacular" flyer from DGW. On page 21 they have 3", 5 1/2"' 5", barrels for 1851, 1860 and 1858 revolvers. I ordered a 5" "Sheriff" barrel for my 1851.

I think the only thing you have to do is put the new barrel assembly on. It comes with loading lever, the whole works.

It depends on which barrel you want, but they run from $55 on the low side to $99 on the high side.

There might be a problem if the barrels are by a different maker than the gun, as all repros are not created equal in terms of the cylinder arbor diameter, wedge size and location, and frame pin size and location.

Barrels have to be made by the gun's manufacturer or they won't fit; a Uberti barrel will not work on a Pietta...

Also, there is a relationship between the barrel and the base pin that correctly locates the wedge. If this is off, it will affect barrel/cylinder gap, wedge insertion, etc., and adding shims or adjusting the base pin could be in order. It's not just a matter of slapping a new barrel on and voila... there it is! Much to take into account if you do it correctly.

Just a friendly heads up! :)

The barrels and assemblies advertised are made by Pietta.
