I was clearing my Ithaca after wiping it down to put it back in the gunsafe when I went to open the gun and the slide wouldn't budge! Well, troubleshooting, I thought it might be the action bar that was broken or dislodged from the bolt. I fiddled with it for a few minutes, but I decided to put it away and not worry about it. So, a month later I pull it from the safe and start fiddling with it again... No dice. It's still locked up. I pushed the pin that holds the action bar to the bolt off to the side and try to pull the slide forward, NOTHING!

So, I start thinking about the gun. I remembered hearing and even repeating that the Ithaca 37 (a clone of the Model 17) does NOT like the magazine nut tightened too tightly against the barrel lug. Hmmmmm. So, I loosen the nut and the action opens up!

Lessons learned: Browning/Pederson design does NOT like to have the barrel nut too tight. When reassembling, back it off one or two divits. Think before you pound or screw something up. It's usually something simple.

Thanks for posting that, I'm sure it'll help someone out there in Lurkerland.
