I currently own a sporterized enfield that i am thinking about making a project gun out of. I know there are a lot of purists out there but stock has already been cut and the sights as well. My thought is buy the synthetic stock from ATI for 70 bucks have the barrel cut from 25 inches to 22 inches and have the gun refinished. Can some one give me what the cost might be. And if anyone has had experiences with doing this to and enfield. I know i am not the only one saying how many millions have been made. Also i live in central florida does any know a quality place to do the things i want done?

Keep in mind that ATI stocks are heavy. Enfields make great hunting weapons and imho are well worth using. I would look around for good gunsmiths in your area that you trust. Anyone can take a hacksaw and cut the barrel, but it has to be square and then a crown cut. How does the rifle shoot now? How is the headspace and the bore. Don't sink lots of money and time in it until everything checks out ok. Good luck.

The weight would not be a big issue. Unless its heavier then my 870 which is the gun i carry when i stalk hunt. I am not sure about head spacing simply because i do not know how to measure it. but i know if i do some looking on here i can find out. The bore is clean. And i have only shot it once since i got it. Someone somewhere has already done action and trigger work to it.

You can examine your fired cases for excessive streach near the rim. If not too bad you can reload your ammo and save some money if you shoot it a lot. The point I'm trying to make is don't put a lot of money into it if it's not up to snuff. As far as an action job I doubt it. The lee enfield's are some of the slickest bolt guns you will ever shoot.

You should go on youtube and search for the midwayusa gunsmithing tips. There is a very short and sweet video on how to cut and recrown a barrel. If you are a diy kind of guy, especially on project guns, you might want to give it a whirl yourself.

Thanks for the replys. After some thought. I am probably going to just purchase the API scope mount and see if it groups well before doing all the other things on my list. Spending 40 for a mount to find out the gun can not group well i can swallow. Also i will talk to a friend of mine who does quite a bit of rifle work. See if i can talk him into checking head spacing. if after that everything looks good then i will spend the money to have it cut and re-crowned and parkerized. but the big ticket items will have to wait i am on a limited budget and i recently picked up a marlin xs7 which still needs some good optics.
