I was having a heck of a time finding the rifle I was looking for. Contacted a gentleman on the local FFL list and he was worlds of help. Just ordered my Howa 1500 with black Hogue over molded stock in .308. I decided on the .308 for the availability and variety of ammunition. I can use it here in Michigan for deer and hopefully coyote eradication and someday hunt in Colorado with my father. Thank you to all of the members of this sight that helped me also.

You will not be disappointed with the Howa 1500. I built one on a .30-06 action and never looked back.

Howa is a good company. Did you get the heavy barrel version?

I looked at the Heavy Varmint with the 20" barrel but none were available and I thought that one would be a bit heavy. Some sits list it as 8.5# and others list it at 9.3#. Although I do not "stalk" deer I thought the regular ol' howa/hogue would be a good balance of weight.

You will really appreciate that Hogue stock come winter and while wearing gloves. It is nice and sticky. :)

I also bought 2 pair of Nike thin insulated gloves with grippy lines on them. On clearance for $10 a pair. I hate wearing thick gloves. The sticky lines on the Hogue stock should be like super glue. I like that the rifle is 7.75 instead of 6.5 pounds. Should help with recoil without feeling too heavy.
