Bushmaster SBR and sometimes a Registered Lightning Link. The RLL is not in the gun most of the time, hence the second tax stamp.

From a few years ago... Top to bottom: cut down CA DOJ HK94 w/sear, suppressed 9mm AR15 w/RDIAS, Vector Uzi carbine and Hard Times Armory Micro Uzi conversion. Sold the RDIAS to fund an M16, sold the HK & sear and sold the Micro Uzi. Still have the Vector Uzi.

Do you have any guns without suppressors? That's a nice $3800 in tax stamps there.

Prince Yamato
April 16, 2010, 01:03 AM
Of all the NFA items, I think suppressors are the most practical. If you haven't shot a suppressed firearm, you don't know what you're missing.

Wildyams
April 16, 2010, 01:38 AM
Ranb, you have enough money in silencers that you could probably have moved to a state that you can use them in! haha

Ranb
April 16, 2010, 06:50 AM
I have eight, they cost about $40 each plus the $200 tax. Add in the $1600 I spent on tools just for making silencers and comes to a bit over $3500. I own my house and am a dozen years from retirement. Moving now is a bad idea.

I have been working to make silencers legal to use in WA for the last several years. The ony problem is that most gun owners in WA could not care less about silencer ownership or use, including most of the people on this forum.

I am making a silencer education video to send to my Reps in Olympia. I am also trying to make appointments to talk to Pedersen (House Judiciary chairman) and Finn (District 35) about bil 1604. I am also trying to get people to write to Pedersen about the bill (he claims I was the ony one to write), but it is a real uphill battle.

would love to get some education on making your own, along with your tool setup. I wasn't thinking so much about tax stamps as you've threaded a lot of bbls! I am in the process of having my first two NFA items, an SBR uzi and a coastal cans MIMS... Here in NC full auto can be difficult, but all the rest can be had easy enough. I would absolutely love to make my own, and of all NFA stuff, suppressors definitely seem the most useful. I'll edit to post my toys as soon as the stamps come back, hoping any day now!

Ranb
April 16, 2010, 03:44 PM
The best place to go for info on making silencers is http://www.silencertalk.com . You will need a lathe to do good work on threading barrels. I use a tap and die for any threads under an inch, but the die is held in a chuck to ensure it stays straight.

RE: M79 It's my brother's gun, a real M79 that was re-classified as a Form 1 shotgun, then re-classified back to a DD (*or something like that....I'm no NFA expert, but it is papered, and 40mm again.) He has all kinds of gas, behive, buckshot, flares, etc. He also loads the talcum powder blue tips with .38 S&W blanks in the tail. It is fun to shoot. He also has a "shortie" barrel for it, but I think it is loaned out, so I may not be able to get a photo of it. Nowadays, it might be cheaper to shoot than the .50BMG, with reloaded 40mm practice rounds.

Any experience with Coastal Arms suppressors?

Thats a Coastal up there in my pic. LRT model, my buddy has a Surefire and the Coastal is hard to tell a difference and 60% less cost. The Coastal can be taken down for user servicing. Both end caps, each K-baffle and the blast chamber can be individually cleaned. The tolerances are nice and tight and its quite heavy duty, actually a little heavy, but its beefy in all the right places.

WOW!

Lots of cool toys in this thread. I am jealous of all the suppressors pictured. I have got to get myself one!

Here are pics of my little collection.

H&R Reising Model 50. An absolute bullet hose in .45 ACP. Lots of fun for not a lot of money. If you want to get into the NFA world of MG's this is the way to go. Once made to run these things RUN. Mine was made in 1942 and spent its life as a police department weapon. I am currently the lucky caretaker and she get exercised about twice a year.

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b301/paulj1973/ReisingII.jpg

1928 Thompson. Want to get peoples attention at the range? Show up with a Tommy Gun. I have learned that if there are a lot of people shooting when I show up with the Thompson it is better to leave it cased, or wait until they leave before taking it out. This thing just attracts way too much attention. This pic shows her outfitted for WWII duty, sling, 30 round stick mag, and horizontal fore grip. Band of Brothers anyone? And yes, I have sat and fondled this weapon while watching BOB before anyone asks.

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b301/paulj1973/thompson4.jpg

Same weapon but in "gangster" guise with vertical grip and 50 round "L" drum.

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b301/paulj1973/thompson2.jpg

And finally my absolute favorite. If you can stretch to an M16 then do it! There is no other NFA weapon that is as versatile. Here is my RIA lower converted by Sendra sporting a 7.5" upper, Beta drum, and Bushnell Holosight. This thing runs like a sewing machine. Well, a very LOUD sewing machine. I mean like astonishingly, firing line clearingly loud. But it sure is fun! Just don't be on either side of it when it is running.

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b301/paulj1973/betamag3.jpg

Yours truly making the beast bark. Notice the empty cases in the air. This pic does nothing to capture the incredible noise of the little 7.5" upper!

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b301/paulj1973/brass.jpg

Same gun but with a 14.5" M4 style upper with red dot sight and a 22 LR kit. If there is more fun that can be had with a machine gun I don't know what it might be. The only improvement would be bigger magazines. This thing runs well in excess of 1000 RPM so the 30 round mags don't last long. But wow is it fun, and cheap!

How about a list of mods?

Basically just what you see.
MOE grip and stock
Magpul sights
Magpul enhanced trigger guard and AFG
7" 1-7 twist American Spirit Arms barrel
Low pro gas block from Bravo Company
KFH flash hider
Midwest industries free float rail.
Badger Tac-Latch
Ambi sling mount reciever cover plate
Built it all with a DPMS lower reciever parts kit
Upper and Lower from Dreadnaught Industries
Alot of KG Gun Kote
I did tap the take-down pin detent pin hole for a 4-40 set screw and the lower is tapped for an 8-32 trigger adjustment screw.
I guess the only thing I really want to do to it now would be add a BAD Lever.

I also have a CGI suppressor thats real nice on there and fun with the CMMG 22 conversion kit.

How much velocity and terminal performance do you give up with these 7" AR uppers? Would they still be effective out to, say, 200 yards or so?

From a cost/practicality standpoint with a view toward SD use, it's hard to beat a SBR AR or a Krink in my mind - and it seems like Krinks are a lot harder to come by.

Tactical Ninja-

I have chronographed Wolf 62 grain FMJ at 2080 FPS out of my 7.5" upper at a distance of ten feet. I have used it to reliably detonate Tannerite at 75 yards, and that requires 2000 FPS. As far as 200 yards I can't say. I certainly wouldn't want to be in front of it at 200 yards.

As far as home defense goes I can't imagine one of these shorty uppers or a Krink being used indoors. I have shot several Krinks in both semi and full auto variants. Just like the shorty .223 uppers they are simply offensive. The first shot indoors with either of these monsters would almost certainly render the shooter temporarily blind and probably permanently deaf. The muzzle flash and concussion need to be experienced to be understood. A pump shotgun loaded with Buckshot would be a much better point and shoot weapon, at least in my mind. Not telling you what to use as a bedside defense weapon but I think the mighty 12 gauge is hard to beat for home defense.

I have an 870 for HD.

Basically, my thinking is that a 7" AR is small and light enough to go with me pretty much anywhere - as a vehicle gun, slung while ATVing, etc., etc. A SBR AR would be "always there," and a nice upgrade from a handgun while moving around outdoors and otherwise doing things that would preclude comfortable toting of a full-sized rifle or shotgun.

What's the OAL on that thing? Google fails me on this point.

Yes, it's a P6. It was a West German police gun that was issued in November 1982. It shoots pretty well, but could use a new set of springs. Off to the Wolff website I go.

The optics are an EOTech Exps3-0 with 3x Magnifier - very nice for close work (flip-to-side) or moderate distance (old eyes)

There is a matching upper in 5.56, with its' own can:

S&W 422, have to use sub sonic ammo in that guy the barrel is 6 inches long, and I love giving that gun to somebody new to shoot, if you look the barrel is "under" the slide, so when they pull the slide back and look down from the top there is no chamber. I like the combo even though it is really long you can see all of the front sight no problem.

The M&P with the stainless barrel is in 300 Whisper

Nope, company called Zimmerman arms made that gun, its a complete receiver, it uses 10/22 parts but it's not one of the cheap plastic 2 piece shells that are made now.

Zimmerman went out of business on Jan 1, 2012. I was lucky that I got that one in early November, it's serial number 25.

I don't think there are any transferable select fire Glocks in the USA. There are some transferable Taurus pistols that are clones of the Beretta 92 select fire guns. But there are only 8 of those I believe.

It works quite well. The CMMG upper has a lot of action noise, and with subsonics that's about all you hear. With subs on a bolt action it's quieter than a pellet gun.

Here's a video with supersonics. With subs you don't get the "pop".

I'm pretty sure that there are zero transferable legitimate Glock 18s in the US. The Gun Control Act of 1968 banned the importation of transferable NFA items into the US; before the G18 was produced.
