The Beren Collection

Well, here's a picture of my small but growing collection of handguns. The collection includes a S&W Mod. 27 w/ 5" barrel, a S&W Mod. 29, a S&W 1076, a Griffon 1911 (notice the missing front sight, soon to be fixed), a Kel-Tec P32, a Glock 17, and my Glock 32 in its Comp-Tac holster.

Contrary to proper practice, I have magazines inserted in a few of the firearms. I did check each to make sure they were clear, and they'll be checked again prior to going back into the safe. (What practice do you follow for semiautomatics in storage? No magazine inserted?) I have the original grips for the Mod. 29, but find the Pach's more comfortable for shooting. I think a couple more 1911-style pistols are next - probably another Griffon, and then maybe I'll build one from a bare frame. I love those Griffons!

Enjoy!

All my center fire firearms (except those in bank boxes) are always loaded at all times, except when I'm handling them. I insert empty magazines in cleared guns before photographing them, and occasionally shoot revolvers loaded with dummy rounds.

Once in awhile, I'll take a kind'a sort'a loaded photograph, but I still like to err on the side of caution.

Yeah, I keep them loaded. I used to not do this when I started, but as my comfort level rose, my condition level dropped.

I have two of those guns - nice looking collection!

I unload all guns that I store, with the exception of those I leave loaded because of frequent use and/or "just in case" firearms. Basically, if I see one of my pistols with a magazine in it, that's an immediate sign that it's loaded. If there's no magazine in it, it's unloaded. (And yes, I check them anyway! :D )

Oh, and BTW - Beren, given the size of your collection, you might consider changing your username from "Beren The One-Handed" to "Beren With Seven"!

:neener: :p :D

Boy that ol' M27 is a sexy beast!!! 'Tween it and the G17 you pretty much have it covered.

Looks like some insidious saboteur drilled holes in the slide and barrel of a perfectly useable 1911 too. Take one of the other guns and fix his wagon.

Nice collection. Hopefully they are Catholic and will breed. :D

Oh, btw. Is your wife's nickname Luthien?

Oh, there will be more coming. I need to save up some money though and buy things like...clothes.. Ammunition would be nice, too. See, if I start calling myself Beren with X, X will keep changing! Luthien.. I may have met her a few times, but she must have been someone else's Luthien.

And yes, I am taking Dec. 17th off from work.

Thanks for the kind words. For the most part, I might actually be finished with my handgun collection. I'm not sure what else I really want to buy aside from another 1911. However, I only have one rifle thus far and feel hungry for a nice SKS and an AR. Then there's always shotguns.

Is there a "Must Have" handgun not already somewhat represented in my collection? (Aside from a high-quality 5" 1911.)

Oh! Yes, there is one more I must add - a nice .22LR pistol. I'd like that Russian one mentioned elsewhere in the forums here but I don't think they're available in the States.

I'm going to be taking off the 16th and the 17th. I scored a ticket to the 'marathon' of all three back to back, starting at 2 pm, the FotR and the TTT extended versions followed by the RotK beginning at 11. :neener:

Hopefully I've used enough LotR code here that the mods will still think we're discussing guns. Just in case, how do you like the Griffon, I'm not familiar with them.

I thought about trying to attend a marathon myself, but you see, I have a unique medical condition that ONLY expresses itself when I sit down in a movie theater. My bladder has a 'Cinematic Experience Detector' that senses when I am in a movie theater and forces me to go to the bathroom two or three times. It only happens when I go to the movies. :P

So, if I attended the marathon, I would die of dehydration. RotK had best not be as hacked up as TTT was. I was /so/ angry at how they butchered the rekindling of Theoden scene.

I love my Griffon, but mine is very used. Someone beat the snot out of it. The front sight fell off! IWI said they'll replace it for me even though I am not the original owner, for a small service fee. I'm sending my slide in to them later this week. The trigger is heavy, but after I stripped the frame apart and cleaned everything, not as rough. I plan to buy another one new when I have the cash.

My crucial "first experience" with the Griffon was blissful. I found it very easy to control. Took out a couple paper plates in rapid fire from ten yards without any jams, etc.

I need to replace the ejector as well, see my thread "Playing with my Griffon."
