Bravo Company Vs. Daniel Defense

It's time for an upgrade on my fixed carry handle Colt AR (which has standard size holes in the upper). Which upper receiver would you choose, Daniel Defense or Bravo Company? Looking simply at the receiver, I want to keep the 1:7 barrel.

Also, how can I tell if my Colt has the "M4 barrel ramp extension"? Would a Colt automatically have it? Thanks!

Did you look into the RifleGear uppers? I heard that they're rebadged DD uppers at a great price.

Either receiver should be just fine, both are quality parts as are many others. Really, you've already identified the most important thing - should the receiver have M4 feed ramps or not.

A Colt 14.5" barrel (barrel extension, actually) should have M4 feed ramps so you'd want a new A4 upper with M4 feed ramps, too. A 20" barrel shouldn't have M4 feed ramps so the new upper shouldn't either.

Of course double check your rifle, just break down the upper and lower and pull the bolt carrier back a few inches then look at the barrel and receiver you have. See if the feed ramps extend in to the receiver or stop at the receiver.

EDIT: I didn't read your post close enough. For just the upper receiver itself, with no other parts, it will make no difference between these two brands or a whole bunch of other brands, because nearly all of them are the same. M4 feedramps as noted is an important question and something you will probably want, assuming your barrel extension is designed for them, which I expect it is.

(Prior response:
Both of them are really top notch. I would opt for a hammer-forged barrel, but both of them offer that on some uppers; and I would opt for a mid-length gas system, and again, both of them offer that option. Once you narrow down what you want, I would go with the lower price of the two.)

Flip a coin. As far as quality goes I think they would rank about equal, you really can't go wrong with either one.

From personal experience I would go with DD only because I have a complete DD AR and the quality is top notch!

BCM, only because of the greater variety they have.
Deos DD have a 16" Reese with thier DD lite rails? BCM deos.

Both companies seem committed to quality thats way above par.

Do you want a corvette ZR1 or a Audi R8? Can you really go wrong with either?

I bought a midlength BCM upper a few months ago. I'm 100% happy with it. It shoots better than I do (so far) and it also feeds the cheap stuff (Wolf, Bear, etc) as well as the good stuff.
I have no experience with DD so I won't trash or praise them. If the reputations are correct then you'd be well served by both brands.

Many things I'm interested in are available at BCM and not at DD (16" pencil barrel Middie, 20" barrel, etc.). However, if DD has what I'm looking for, I'll go to them first (They're local for me :D).

That's a heck of a choice. Hard to go wrong either way, go for the one that has the configuration you like.

Lexus vs. BMW.

Doesn't really matter. They are both very good.

I'm very happy with my BCM midlength, but I haven't tried a DD. Both are quality brands.

To tell if your barrel has the M4 ramps check out this: M4 Feedramps (http://www.m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=193) and buy your upper accordingly.
