So fugly it's cool....

Okay, my local smith started me thinking. He said the French MAS is so ugly, it's cool. Yuck. To each his own, eh?

Here are mine:

Glock: It even sounds fugly. About as aesthetically pleasing as a pipe wrench. Especially when laid up next to a 1911 or a BHP. But I loves me my Glock 19. Cool like a Hummer.

No. 1, Mk. III: Looks like someone stuck a barrel in a branch. If I had to club someone with a rifle, this would be it. Usually looks like someone tried to, too. It lacks the svelte lines of my Persian Mauser. Even it's younger brother, the No. 4, looks better. But something about that Lawrence of Arabia 2x4 muzzle end looks waay cool. I like mine. I also like Laura Croft's.

MARPAT: We paid HOW MUCH for this lo-res digitized Flectar? I still like plain ol' woodland better, but the more I look at it, the cooler MARPAT becomes. Fugly, but cool.

Mike Irwin: 'Nuff said. ;) :D

Okay, your turn.

If you like MARPAT, then the cheap flectar will make you happy! Cheaper than Dirt stull has it for very very cheap.....
I want this, which a lot of people think is ugly

Have you ever met an uglier rifle than this one? I'd take one in a heartbeat if I could get the ammo out here...

I could care less how it looks; the stuff hides better than standard woodland ever could. My cammies are about keeping me from getting shot--I make fashion statements on my own time :)

Uh huh...you da man, Teuf. Fashion statement my a....uh...sternsheets!

BamBam31, I think you stole my list! I carry a Glock 30, think it's beautiful (like a pitbull is beautiful); got my second "Smelly" in two weeks on it's way to my house, even as we speak; and am standing in line with a lot of other old Jarheads for waitin for the day when Marpat becomes available for us civillian "pukes".

I admit my P series have a ''fuglyness'' factor .. but for me they are cool and reliable.

No 1 MkIII .. well my 2a Ishy is same looker . yeah .. ''barrel in a branch'' is a good descrip!:D Excellent clubing implement.

Can't say my Turk' is over pretty ... so damn long it's better to conserve ammo and hit the enemy with it from afar.

Long ago - thought Contenders were verging on fugly ... 'til I got one that is! Now I find beauty at every lusty recoil!:)

Several of the Marines who are stationed at the MEPS in my building are wearing MARPAT these days. It's sort of growing on us around here.

I think anything hat makes you hide better in plain sight is a good thing.

Rabbit.

Glock 30

Don't know how "cool" they are but they sure seem to shoot like little black demons. I haven't seen a bad one yet (accuracy wise).

Steyr AUG. Doesn't create drool (at least not for me) and looks are more a novelty than anything else, but I wouldn't turn it down.

Hmmm. . ., most ugly guns are just plain ugly. It's a tough trick to be truly fugly cool. The Glock is ugly, period. You may love its functionality, and associate that good quality with its looks, but don't go around saying it isn't ugly. Be proud and say "I don't care about looks; I'm not making a fashion statement - I'm choosing the best available firearm for my intended purpose(s)." ;)

It's truly fugly cool when (and I know looks are subjective) you are only taking looks into account. The No. 1 Mk III is unsightly but I can't turn my eyes away  . BTW, the MAS 36 is cool (looking) :neener: :neener: :neener: .

The Stgw 57 wins the prize of ugliest rifle. Almost into the "birth deformed" category. :D

Okay, the G11 is fugly. :D Looks like the bayo's spring-loaded.

Charles Bronson, RIP. :(

The Glock is fugly, not ugly. Get it right, Beetle!!

CleverNickname, that rifle reminds me of that German WWII rifle with the bent barrel (designed to shoot around corners, I think). The MP 43/44 "Krumlauf," which means "In Need of Blue Pill," I think. :D

Hey now.

Flecktarn is pretty cool. At least that's what we thought when we got to replace our plain unicolored moleskin OD green BDUs with Flecktarn. Looks much more soldierly.

I once staged an experiment exactly to assess the aesthetic value of Glock 17. I used pictures of different pistols, lateral views only. For an arbiter I used my wife. Now she is a professonal hardware designer (artistic side), but she is ignorant of guns, and so can't be suspected of any prejudice. The glock won, fast and sure.

Perhaps I could venture an explanation. The design has not a frill to it, but it's highly functional. The grip is relatively steeply raked, the barred axis low, which means better recoil control than in any old fashioned gun. The cat is designed for pouncing, strictly utilitarian, but we perceive it as beauty. And the few curves there are to the gun, were drawn by a sure hand, which gained the prompt recognition by another professional.

Best regards
