dumb duracoat ?

What exactly is the purpose of duracoat ? Is it used to cover flaws or is just a matter of personal taste for looks? Does it add or detract the value of the gun ? I have a duracoated detonics which I like the looks of. Just didn't know the real purpose of duracoat I hope these don't sound like stupid questions thanks for any imput

It's just another epoxy-like finish. Doesn't add or detract from the value. Mind you, you'd have a hard time selling a pink firearm unless you find a guy looking for a rifle for his other half.

If a firearm's original finish is in poor shape, Duracoat is a durable and relatively inexpensive option to rebluing. It's a good enough option for a firearm without a significant pedigree.:)

durable coating
withstands wear reasonably well, resists corrosion, easy to strip and refinish when necessary
It isn't a "cheap" product, I own several custom pistols and know of many high-end pistolsmiths that use parkerizing + duracoat as their preferred finish.

Looks are first and foremost for a LOT of people. Such finishes allow the owner to be able to boast how they have a "custom" firearm. :rolleyes:
