I was wondering what people thought about carrying in a rear pocket? When I took my CCW class this summer the instructor used and suggested a rear pocket carry if you were to go with a small .380. After seeing his setup it looked to be minimally invasive in every day carry and didn't require a new wardrobe. I have one of the cheap nemesis holsters and I must say it is much faster and easier to draw from the rear pocket than from the front. I was thinking about buying a quality rear pocket holster and before I made the purchase I was looking for opinions on rear pocket carry in general with the small .380s out there today.

IMO, a nice wallet holster is the way to go, as going for your wallet is a very natural movement resulting in very bad news for the unwary. I keep my Colt Mustang tucked into this http://www.pocketholsters.com

I don't think much of it. Rear pockets are almost always much shallower than front pockets, creating concealment problems with anything but "vest pocket" .25s or the like. It is also a more natural motion to draw from a front pocket than a rear.

It can work with a mousegun and the right holster, but IWB really isn't that hard and it lets you move up to full-power 9x19 in a number of good guns.
For the occasional carrier, I suppose a p32/p3at in a stiff leather wallet holster could work well, though.

I frequently carry my LCP in a back pocket in an Uncle Mike's pocket holster. It occasionally peeks out over the top of the pocket but that's not really much of an issue in an open carry state.

Every now and again I'll carry a .25 in a wallet holster in my back pocket around the house (I know it's being undergunned, but I can't have a G19 IWB all day every day.) It's easier and much less of a hassle than anything IWB. I sit at my desk with it in my back pocket quite a bit while I read these forums. If I had a nice little .380 I'd seriously consider it for office carry at work. It would probably see a lot of use in the height of summer, too.

^ When the pickpocket says, "I'm taking your wallet," I'd rather not have him lift my $400+ pistol out of my rear pocket. Wallet in back, pistol in front where I can keep my hand on it if I need to.

It doesn't work too well. A lot of it depends on the depth of the back pocket. Even with my KT P32 in a DeSantis pocket holster the grip peeks out of a pair of back pockets on most of my jeans.

The problem I have is that I work where it is required to wear a dress shirt, tie, and slacks. I haven't found a way to use an iwb holster with this dress code. I have tried the LCP in a front pocket and it is slow and clumsy to draw as well as printing fairly clearly even in the few holsters I have tried. The little I've done with it in the back pocket it has drawn much smoother than up front and hasn't peaked out either. I wasn't sure if people felt comfortable sitting on a pistol or not. 99% of the work day is standing up so it isn't much of an issue, I'm just not sure I like the idea of the muzzle pointing at me.

NAA Mini 22LR with the 1 1/8" barrel and a P32 with the belt clip.

In the office - NAA in pocket with a tiny holster to keep the lint out & spur hammer from making a hole in the pocket.

Out of office & everywhere else - The P32 IWB carry via the belt clip (or carry something bigger).

I carried this combo in my right rear pocket for a number of years and it worked quite well. Pistol is a P3AT.

The holster is a 2n1 Convertible by K & D and is made so that the rear panel will detach. The holster is made to be worn in the pocket with the panel attached and facing outward which absolutely eliminates printing. From the rear the panel outline looks just like a leather wallet outline - perfect concealment.

I found the rig great. K & D makes quality stuff.

I used to carry a NAA Guardian 380 in a rear pocket holster made by Graham Leatherworks. Worked fine. (where I worked required a tucked in polo)

When I upgraded to a 9mm I went to the belt. (now work for myself so the shirt is untucked usually)

I've tried carrying a Taurus PT-738 TCP, and as long as my shirt wasn't an "athletic" cut, it was virtually invisible there.

I use a kramer pocket holster with S&W 640 with jeans and really like it. It works well in the winter with fleece or sweat shirts or a t shirt in summer. depending on which jeans (carpenter style) I can wear with shirt tucked in. Its a no-go with baggy cargo shorts its back to front pockets.

i keep my kel-tec pf9 in a galco pocket hoster. depending on how i dress it goes in the front or the back. if i'm wearing dress slacks it goes in the front, if i'm wearing jeans ( i only wear carpenter style jeans) it will go in the back quite comfortably. my only complaint is that if you don't pay attention how you placed the gun in the back pocket you can accidently hit the mag release. i have to make sure the mag release is facing me and not a hard surface.
