Dear THR,

Well, I had an extremely sudden shock recently. After all this time, the Army is going to take me someplace NICE for a change! LOL. Yes, like a bolt out of the blue (much like my orders to BNCOC....), I was recently notified that I and my family will be relocating to Schofield Barracks sometime next year. That's Wheeler Army Airfield, Hawaii for those who didn't read the subject line. LOL.

Anyway, I've been through Hawaii a couple of times, but I have never been stationed there, and I was kind of wondering if anyone out there has any information regarding Hawaii and it's gun laws, hunting seasons, etc.

Ah, the horror of military service.

Unfortunately Hawaii is one of those states with terrible gun laws - from our point of view. There is a limitation of magazine capacity among other things, and I think there is registration of handguns(but I'm not quite sure). I think you need a permit to have any kind of firearm - even antiques and decomissioned ones.

On the up side, skeet shooting is big.

I know they do have concealed carry. It is not a"shall issue" state though and is determined on individual basis. They used to have bird and hog, sheep and goat hunting that I know of. There are a number of USPSA clubs also if you like. Try this LINK (http://www.firearmslawcenter.org/content/hawaii.asp) for firearms regs. Have fun, it's a beautiful place.

They do have "may-issue" concealed carry, but the only license ever granted, AFAIK, was to the sister of the chief of police, and she lost hers in the resulting scandal. Don't count on getting a permit... :fire:

I was at Schofield Bks for 2 1/2 years and I was Army Aviation so I worked a Wheeler.............but that was back in th 60's so any information that I could provide would be long out of date. Good luck and I hope you and your family enjoy your Hawaiian assignment.:)
