I used some South African surplus stuff in my 308 Ruger. Shot fine, other than the mediocre accuracy. At the time, that gun was 1.5 moa with Georgia Arms "match", and that surplus stuff was around 2.5-3. Really, all it was good for was destroying cinder blocks and making noise. It just didn't suit my purposes for the gun.

Yes the nato ammo is safe in the .308.

Its 5.56 that isnt safe in a .223 gun.

I used surplus South African in my CZ-550. About 1 round in ten chambered hard. Some were too long and some were too fat.

I don't buy SA surplus anymore.

It is great for plinking and shooting stuff up but not for hunting as my brother found out.
He accidently mixed a batch of NATO FMJ with his hunting round and shot a deer with it.
He had to track the deer almost 3/4 of a mile with very little of a blood trail. Bullet went through with a very small exit wound, not much energy transfer to the deer. Luckily he took out a lung.
